Over several decades, the musicians that make up the La Mer String Quartet have been performing with various orchestras for audiences across the United States. Each one is a seasoned and widely experienced musician. We enjoy making music, and we are very happy to be able to provide the music for your special occasions.

First Violinist, Lynette Andrews, grew up in the Chicago area where she studied with violinist Drew Lecher of the Chicago Symphony. She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Oral Roberts University. She has been active as a teacher, children's chorus director, recording artist for cable and television programs, and violinist in various orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the Chicago and Hampton Roads areas. She has served as Principal Second and Assistant Concert Master ot the Virginia Beach Symphony and is currently Assistant Concert Master of the Virginia Beach Chamber Orchestra.
Yale Graduate David March is the Second Violinist. As a Navy child, David lived in many parts of the world and began studying violin in Southern California under Betty Dayton. After only two years of study, David began playing with various youth and community orchestras and presented his first solo recital at age thirteen. Although classically trained, David is also comfortable as a soloist and ensemble musician in many genres of music including folk, rock, blues, bluegrass and Celtic. He has performed in orchestras from coast to coast and is currently a member of Symphonicity, the Symphony Orchestra of Virginia Beach.
Violist Ellen Grainger earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master of Music degree in viola performance from Kent State University where she studied under Raymond Montoni. She then studied with Milton Preves of the Chicago Symphony and served as principal violist of the Chicago Civic Orchestra and Elgin Philharmonic while teaching in the Elgin school system. After moving to Virginia, Ellen played in the Richmond Symphony for 27 years while holding a full time teaching position in Henrico County and also played with the Victorian String Quartet. After retiring to Virginia Beach in 2004, Ellen became Principal violist of the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra, and has a large studio of violin and viola students. She has also been named to Who's Who of Musicians and Who's Who of America's Best Teachers.
Cellist Lorrie Reid received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music where she studied under the world renowned cellist, Lynn Harrell. While teaching music in both public and private schools, Lorrie has held the position of Principal Cellist with the Lorain, Ohio Orchestra where she was also a member of the La Galleria String Quartet and has played with the Topeka Symphony and Studio String Quartet in Topeka, Kansas. She now plays with Symphonicity as well as various church and chamber groups in Virginia Beach, and maintains a full studio of cello and piano students.
