Straight Out Scribes Spoken Word Artist from Sacramento, CA

Straight Out Scribes is a dynamic mother/daughter poetry duo comprised of daughter Dr. V.S. Chochezi and mother Staajabu. They have been performing as Straight Out Scribes for nearly 20 years. They are often called upon to share their poetry during April (National Poetry Month) along with earth day events, for Kwanzaa events in December, for Black History month (February), Women's Herstory Month (March), Martin Luther King tributes in January, Mother's Day events in May, Juneteenth events in June, and more. Their poetry appears in numerous anthologies and publications and they have self-published six collections of their poetry and two spoken word cds.
