My name is Chris Heider. I'm a singer-songwriter, an open mic night host, a professional musician and vocalist, and my own one-man band -- Chris Heider - Just Passing Through. I've performed professionally in the Dayton and surrounding areas for over 40 years. My singing and guitar playing style, and even some of the songs I've written and recorded, have been compared with the likes of John Denver and James Taylor. That's pretty good company, if you don't mind me saying.
My mission is to bring smiles to the faces of the people I have the special privilege of entertaining. I play a variety of music, including pop, folk, rock, blues, country, classic rock, classic country, standards, and music specifically tailored to people of all ages. I perform at all kinds of venues including restaurants, cafes, diners, coffee shops, wine tastings, in-house and backyard concerts, block parties, retirement communities and nursing homes, fundraisers, church and religious functions, street fairs, flea markets, and many others.
Having taught high school history for 32 years, I also understand how to interact with, motivate, and maintain the attention of a large group of people and, when appropriate, invite their participation - all the while making sure they feel relaxed, respected, appreciated, and most importantly, entertained. I have used these skills to great advantage as the host of a weekly Tuesday open mic night at a local Applebee's Grill and Bar. We continue to attract a long list of new and veteran performers every week. Applebee's appreciates the business we help them attract, especially the large number of A.T.O.M. (Applebee's Tuesday Open Mic) night patrons (Applebee's "groupies") who come out to see and hear us play every Tuesday evening. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of such a close-knit group of musicians and vocalists, patrons, management, and staff.
I look forward to hearing from you and performing at your event!
