Hello, my name is Clayton DeVries. I am a 18 year old senior and I go to Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, MI. I play the saxophone and enjoy with sincere and genuine passion. I started getting involved in music when I was about 4 years old when my parents got me my first drum set. They told me I had a great rhythm and beat at this age and they knew I was going to go somewhere in music. When I was in 5th grade, we got to choose the instruments we wanted to play for our school and I was either going to play the alto saxophone or trumpet. Luckily, I chose the saxophone. The first saxophone I ever got was a Yamaha YAS-23 which is a student horn. I started really getting into jazz in 8th great when my band teacher started an after school jazz band. It really kicked off at that point. I switched schools going into my freshman year in high school and it was hard making new friends. I wanted to quit band but my mother told me to try it, so I joined my schools concert band and it was the best with my new band teacher. Moving forward to this year, 2017, I have made countless friends in my schools 2 jazz bands, concert band, symphonic band, pep band, pit orchestra, and marching band. I have also had the privelage to be invited to play as Tenor 2 in the MSBOA All State Jazz Ensemble, Alto 1 in the Hastings All Star Band, and as Tenor 1 in the prestigious Interlochen Jazz Ensemble. I currently own and play dakota alto, soprano, and tenor saxophone. I also play flute, piccolo, and clarinet. I have been accepted into prestigious colleges under the jazz studies program including Michigan State University, University of North Texas, and The New School in New York City. I have played with great jazz musicians including Andrew Rathbun, Tom Knific, Jeremy Siskind, Keith Hall, Bill Sears, Kelly Sill, Paul Brewer, Robin Connell, Kevin O'Connell, and many more!
