Ricardo Diquez was born in Caracas Venezuela on July 2nd. He was born to a Trinidadian father and a Puerto Rican mother. He was raised as a young child in the Los Teques area of Venezuela and later in Humacao, Puerto Rico. His parent's love of music and dance influenced Ricardo, hearing Soca and Calypso from his fathers side, Bomba and Plena from his mothers side, and collectively Salsa and Merengue from both. Ricardo has been singing all of his life and has entertained crowds and dancers in the local area and in other states and countries for over 20 years. Salsa music has been a part of Ricardo's life since he was a child having met many great Salsa singers such as, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Oscar D' Leon, and Tito Rojas, courtesy of his parents introductions at concerts as a child. At the age of just two years old, Ricardo won a televised talent contest by singing Sandro's “Una Muchacha y Una Guitarra”on a popular Venezuelan TV show called Renny Ottolina's Show. At six years old, Ricardo made his first public appearance singing at a Mother's Day performance at the Los Teques Arts Center. In the mean time Ricardo sang at many public and private events in Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Ricardo Diquez first moved to North Carolina in 1999 and immediately auditioned with a local group called Samecumba. Ricardo left the group but returned in 2004. After overcoming many obstacles, Ricardo found support from family and in new friendships. Ricardo then had the confidence and trust in his talent to create his own Salsa Orchestra in 2007. The Tropic Orchestra is a hand selected group of local Latin musicians some of whom he had met in previous groups he had sang with. The popularity of Latin rhythms and styles allow the group to play in a wide range of events in public and private performances where people can listen, dance, learn, and most of all enjoy Caribbean and Latin music. Lately, Ricardo has been performing with the Tropic Orchestra and working with Singer and Producer Fania All Star Legend Van Lester. Considered by many as the best Salsa and Tropical music singer in North Carolina, In 2012-13 Ricardo was nominated for Best Artist, Best Tropical Song, and Best Tropical Group in the Premios Carolina Music Awards, in which “Llego El Momento” won the award for best Tropical Song. He also received the Latino Diamante Awards for his contributions to the Arts and Culture in the state of North Carolina. You can follow Ricardo Diquez on Facebook and Twitter.
