BIOGRAPHY:
String Theory started playing together in early 2002. They evolved from jam sessions happening at fire pits and private parties throughout Southwest Michigan. Their mission is to bring the magic and energy of these fire pit jam sessions to your event. To accomplish this they use guest musicians playing a variety of instruments. They also perform songs with loose arrangements and open spaces for jams, often arranging a song while in the middle of a performance. The combination of guest musicians and improvisation keeps their music fresh and gives it an excitement that can't be rehearsed.

Both Jim and John have been performing music locally for over 15 years. John has played bass with bands such as Mass Quantities, The Gruv Unit, and Headlight. He has also put in a lot of time mixing sound for local bands and operating his home recording studio where he has recorded dozens of local singer songwriters. Jim has taken the stage at the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts with his band Scatterdome and has played with many area bands including Lighthouse Commission and Insane Theatre.

EQUIPMENT:
String Theory is proud of both their vintage instruments and their digital sound system. John plays a 1967 Fender Electric Jazz Bass and a 1970 Harmony F-70 Acoustic/Electric Mandolin. Jim plays an Epiphoneacoustic with a built in pickup and microphone system. For sound reinforcement, they utilize EV Condensor microphones, a digital mixer and a JBL Eon self-powered speaker system. (Use of a house PA system is acceptable.)
