Rodney Shenk has been professionally writing, recording, producing, performing and mixing music since the late-1980s. Some of Rodney's most recent accomplishments are listed below.
Current - Rodney is in high demand as a live sound engineer for many of the original bands in the Sarasota/Tampa Bay area through his company Straighter Underpark Records (Live sound division)
In 1999 Rodney and his project studio (Straighter Underpark Records) was hired by the State of Florida's S.W.A.T. (Students Working Against Tobacco) campaign to compose, program and perform the music for Manatee County High School's students' original anti-smoking-theme rap songs. In 2001 he was hired for the second CD, this time to include the entire recording and mixing process. He just finished his third contract with Manatee Cty. for the third CD, to be released late 2003.
In 1999 Rodney's song 'I've Got Something' won Runner-up in the Dance Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, the largest in the world.
In 1996 Rodney wrote, recorded and produced 606's second CD, 'I Can'.
In 1995 Rodney's jingle, written and recorded for Vision Advertising (for Badcock Home Furnishing Center), won the People's Choice Award in the Polk County Addy Awards.
In 1995 Rodney was hired to write and record a theme song for the American Cancer Society's annual Tampa event.
In 1994 Rodney wrote, recorded and co-produced 606's first CD, 'Awash in Controversy'.
In 1990, Rodney co-wrote, recorded and co-produced The Sharks first CD release, 'Never...Ever...'.
Throughout the `90's, Rodney's band 606/The Sharks played alongside the likes of Howard Jones, Jon Secada, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Cause & Effect, Stevie B., Foghat, Firehouse, etc. The band also headlined for USF's Bull Blast at The Sun Dome, various out-of-state college concerts & frat. parties and was brought to Louisville just to play during The Kentucky Derby weekend. From mid 1994-1997, 606 regularly played before approximately 10,000 people each weekend as the house-band at Harpo's of Ybor City.
As you can see, Rodney has lived the definition of 'professional musician'.
