Average Bar Band is a soulful and grooving rock cover band with a little R&B mixed in. We play contemporary and classic songs. Please watch the video to the right to get a feel for what we do.
Our members have played with Gloria Estefan, Norah Jones, Lauryn Hill, The Teenagers ("Why Do Fools Fall In Love"), and The Chiffons ("He's So Fine"), among many others. One member has an upcoming showcase for Clive Davis that was set up by Gavin DeGraw.
Last fall, at The Back Fence on Bleecker Street, John Mellencamp came up to us, complimented us and tipped us, then complimented us again on his way out at the end of the set. That was for the three piece band. I wish he had heard the five piece band.
We love to play and sing, and audiences respond very positively to our love of music. We are available for parties, weddings and any other events.
We're happy to learn new tunes that you pick for us!
We also sound great as a three piece band, and five piece band, and we can play the same repertoire with acoustic guitars and hand percussion instead of drum kit. This is for a lower volume and to create a more intimate ambience.
We also can provide solo acoustic guitar or keyboard for the cocktail hour or ceremony.
The clients who wrote the testimonials below have all given permission to be contacted for verification.
For serious inquiries, a free showcase can be arranged in Manhattan so you can meet us, and see and hear us play live.
Thank you for your interest in booking us. You will be happy with the process and the results. We look forward to talking to you, and playing for you!
Kind words about Average Bar Band:
From Casey Stern, regarding his wedding to the lovely Shanon Hinkley on July 4th, 2012. If we could pay people to write reviews like this, we would, but Casey did this of his own volition. No bribe required.

Hey Jimmy -
Our pleasure! Here you go.
If you want to have a great party, you absolutely have to have great music. Deciding whether or not to use a D.J. or a Band is the first step, and then once you realize that Live music is the only way to go...that's when the real trouble begins. Everywhere you turn there is another website, and another band. Luckily for you if you are reading this, you'll never look at another website again.
The Average Bar Band not only met every expectation we had in playing at our wedding, they exceeding all of them! During the process Jimmy and his group could NOT have been more helpful and easy to work with. They didn't just make certain things work, they actually cared about every decision that was made because they truly wanted our wedding to be the best night of our lives. They were so ridiculously easy going that they even allowed me to sing! (Thank you Average Bar Band for my Springsteen moment)
This band doesn't just give you a list of a ton of songs they can play at your wedding, but they also work with you and add tunes specifically for YOU! Yes, they'll learn the songs YOU want to help make this a perfect wedding. Last but NOT least certainly, they sound unreal. This band has the versatility to pull off Elvis and then turn around and take you to 2012 playing any of your modern day favorites. At times during the party, people were complaining about how much their feet hurt, their legs were sore, how hungry they were...because nobody say down to eat. Jimmy and his guys were just too good and too much fun.
Don't make a mistake and choose anyone else. We didn't. And while everyone's wedding is the "best night of our lives" - ours - thanks in large part to THIS band - was an unbelievable night for our guests too.
