The singer/rapper/musician/songwriter/poet/bandleader Lee ranks among the most original popular artists on the current musical scene. Few artists draw upon so many traditions, weaving different styles of music into one organic, unique form of musical expression.

Lee is originally from Miami, where he co-founded and fronted the popular, award-winning “alt-hip-hop” band, The Square Egg. Today, he performs with his own band, featuring both horns and strings, and is pioneering his own distinctive sound. Lee's music is an amalgam of hip-hop, R&B, funk, with jazz soloists, elements of rock and even classical music, plus moments of spoken word for extra communicative power. His is popular music raised to an ultimate degree. It is simultaneously infectious and meaningful, while also inventing its own rules.

Thematically and lyrically, Lee's songs stand out. After six recordings, tracing an arc from youthful exuberance to adult dynamism, his songs are increasingly autobiographical, not in a confessional mode, but in the sense that they reflect one real life, as refracted through poetic sensibility. The outpouring of words is redolent of rap, but has its own spirit; mature, bemused, thoughtful, and dashing.

Both critics and the public have been noticing. The Miami Herald's Street Magazine named The Square Egg “Best Local Musicians,” while the Miami New Times Reader's Poll established Lee as “Best Male Vocalist.” The influential decided that Lee's band was simply the “Best of 2006.” No wonder ABC-TV used The Square Egg's music in promos for its Dharma and Greg and Drew Carey Show series.

Lee has headlined in important rooms, such as New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music, Galapagos Art Space, S.O.B.'s, Knitting Factory, Bitter End, and the Blue Note, Florida's American Airlines Arena, West Palm Beach Amphitheater, Miami's Bayside Amphitheater, Atlanta's Apache Café, and the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. BET J Network Television has featured The Square Egg, and Lee has thrilled audiences at Miami's Jazz in the Gardens Festival and Alonzo Mourning's charitable Zo's Summer Groove.

Who is Lee? A man whose music is “Erudite and playful, and always dripping with laid-back sex appeal” (Miami New Times), and indeed “A perfect soundtrack to life's undulating highs and lows” (Café De Soul Undiluted). By drawing upon a rich and spirited mélange of African-American and other musical traditions, while always staying true to his own ideas and inspirations, Lee is achieving deep connections with an increasingly wide and widely ranging public.
