Joseph G. Smeall Pop Pianist from Boston, MA

I perform standard music for weddings, baptisms and funerals, on solo piano or piano and vocal. I am familiar with standard Catholic church music, and standards of classical music. I can easily accompany and coach diverse singers of all skill levels. I can sight-read vocal music and have sung with the Chapel Choir of Exeter College at Oxford University. I am skilled in learning music by ear, and improvisation. I have composed and arranged music for ensembles of diversely skilled musicians and singers. I am also happy to do vocal music for Spanish-speaking gatherings, since Spanish is my first language and I love singing it as well as speaking. As an undergraduate, I was the director of music ministry for my campus Catholic mass. I also composed and directed a choral cantata that won the annually award faculty prize for best original music composition, at Amherst College! Most recently, I have taken a new post as the junior organist of the Maronite Catholic Parish of Our Lady of the Cedars of Lebanon in Jamaica Plain, MA. I am very grateful to Msgr Georges El-Khalli and the congregation, for their generosity and encouragement, as I undertake the new challenge of learning to play church organ! If you wish to request a special song to be sung, I make an extra charge, and ask that you provide the lead sheet and lyrics at least three weeks in advance.
