Being born and raised in Chicago, Illinois provided Phillip with a wealth of opportunity. Initially studying piano beginning at the age of eight, and playing gospel piano and singing in church until his teens, Phillip rounded out his studies at the University of Illinois where he studied theory, composition, and technique. Phillip also studied with Bernard Murray at the
Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris, and currently studies with world class pianist Terry Trotter in Studio City, CA and vocal coach Mark Goodman in Burbank, CA.
Phillip has performed at the Beverly Hills Hotel, The Hotel Bel-Air & Forte Restaurant in Beverly Hills, and sang Gershwin at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood.
Other California engagements have included a 5 year stint at Morels French Steakhouse at the Grove in West Hollywood, a 2 year engagement at Alessi Ristorante & Bar in Hollywood, a 1 year engagement at the Radisson/Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, a 1 year engagement at Legacy Restaurant & Piano Bar in Redondo Beach, a 1 year engagement at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, a 1 year engagement at Tony Romas in Beverly Hills, California, and numerous private functions throughout Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and the South Bay area.
Phillip's international credits include time spent in Paris, France, where he performed a concert for the "Fete de la Musique" at the Hotel Tallyrand and performed for the late ambassador to France, Pamela Harriman, a reception for the gallery of Artiste "Jean Mitchell", and numerous private functions at the Ambassadors' residence.
In addition, Phillip performed a 6 month engagement at La Sherwood Dinner House in the Opera District, a 6 month engagement at Hotel Adagio in Boulogne, France and La Tonnelle de Bacchus, and a 1 month engagement at the Hotel California off the Champs Elysees.
One of the highlights of Phillip's career was entertaining 450 guests at the NBC Studios for Tonight Show host Jay Leno's birthday, and performing a show for PBS celebrating the music of Gershwin and Broadway singers.
Always a class act, Phillip's personable manner and professionalism endear him to any audience, old and young alike, as his interpretation of the American Songbook leave the listener wanting more.
