John Kates, a.k.a. Eclectic Pianist Extraordinaire, is a polished pianist for private parties, wedding ceremonies and/or receptions, funerals, or various types of social gatherings. Started playing piano at four years of age. Branched off into ragtime when 12 years old. Studied jazz arranging and improvisation along with classical styles while attending Interlochen Music Camp during high school years. Earned Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance at Michigan State University, then completed a Master's degree in Piano at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. Worked with the Air Force Band for 20 years, retiring from the Air Force in 2002.
Also specializes in accompanying classically-trained vocalists and instrumentalists.
In addition, has composed many original compositions, including songs with lyrics.
