Carol Sarao, an accomplished pianist who specializes in cocktail hours and wedding ceremonies, would love to offer her talents to enhance your special day. Currently the official rehearsal accompanist for both the Ballet and Modern Dance Departments at Richard Stockton College, Carol began studying piano at age 6 with private teachers, and at age 11 went on to study classical piano at the prestigious Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. As an adult, Carol had the privilege of studying jazz improvisation for seven years under pianist Jimmy Amadie (longtime accompanist for the late, great jazz legend Mel Torme.), and made her living as a professional keyboardist, performing with many popular club bands throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s, and touring extensively, from Montreal, Canada to Naples, Florida. As a founding member of Cheetah, an all-girl pop/rock band, Carol appeared at the famed Hershey Park Amphitheatre, as well as traveling to Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Bahrain to perform for American troops.
In 1989, she joined the award-winning group "Cheers, the Band," (designated 'The East Coast's Top Show Band' by Steppin' Out magazine) with whom she played an array of high-profile jobs: casinos lounges, nightclubs, showrooms in the Poconos, corporate parties, opening act for Sister Sledge and The Trammps, bar and bat mitzvahs, and even mayoral inaugurations. And, of course, weddings.
In her 18 years with "Cheers," Carol has performed literally hundreds of cocktail hours and wedding ceremonies, and played at virtually every country club in the South Jersey/ Phila. area--among them such historic venues as The Ram's Head Inn, The Flanders Hotel, the Bellevue Stratford Hotel, and the Aronomink and Overbrook Country Clubs. To each event, Carol brings unfailing professionalism and courtesy, coupled with a fresh, enthusiastic attitude. A deep appreciation for the standards of the American Songbook --particularly the great, classic songs of Porter and Gershwin-- informs her playing, and makes listening to her a joy. Let Carol Sarao's unique interpretations and sophisticated phrasing provide an elegant background for your special day.
If an acoustic piano is not available on location, Carol will be happy to bring a digital synthesizer--featuring a realistic grand piano sound--and a small amplification system. If a duo or trio is required, she can bring in any number of talented partners, including violinists, mandolin players, guitarists, flute players, singers, saxophonists, trumpet players, percussionists, and bassists.
