Summer Watson is an acclaimed British Classical Crossover Artist fast making classical music accessible to the masses, by combining her soaring vocals with charisma and elegance. She has performed around the world, (in America, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Asia) for celebrities, Heads of State and Royalty such as Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Hurley, Hugh Grant, Elle MacPherson, George Michael, HRH Duke and Duchess of York, HRH Countess of Wessex, Governor of California, President of Israel and the Queen of Kazakhstan. Summer is a regular performer in the British Royal household – most markedly to celebrate the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's 60th anniversary. Performance highlights throughout her career include; earlier this year she sang to sold out audiences in Iceland alongside Paul Potts which were televised to Iceland. In 2010 she was featured at the Harbin Ice Festival in China, singing to an immense TV audience of over 1.3 billion people, performing alongside Nick Canon and Michael Bolton. In 2009 she completed a UK Arena tour with sold out performances (for as many as 20,000 per night) as the lead performer with Young Voices (venues included the Royal Albert Hall, the O2 Centre, Liverpool Arena, Sheffield Arena and Manchester Arena).
Summer had a very humble upbringing, she was always captivated by her father's singing of lullabies. Her earliest memory of singing was at the age of four, accompanying herself on a miniature wooden toy-red piano. After performing in countless local festivals and competitions and studying for many years (Associated Board of Royal School of Music) she went onto gain 2nd place in the Llangollen International Young Singer of the Year competition and was awarded the prestigious Countess of Munster scholarship granted by the acclaimed Janet Baker, to the Royal College of Music, London. She ultimately completed a Post Graduate diploma, (Royal College of Music, London), graduating with distinction. She studied with Grazielle Sciutti (San Francisco Opera) and Iris dell'Acqua (vocal coach for Decca, Universal) and at the famed Vienna Staats Oper. She now speaks French, German and Italian fluently.
Summer's recording career flourished when Sony Classical signed her to an unprecedented £1million contract in 2003. Her solo album debut “Summer” was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. Works included artists such as Marcello Alvarez and Roger Vignoles. On release, it reached #1 in the US Itunes Chart and #2 in the UK Classical Charts. Summer is also featured on the film sound tracks, 'Hans Christian Andersen' (Philip Saville) and 'O My God' (Peter Rodgers). Earlier in 2012 she was featured in the acclaimed; Wedding Planner series, David Tutera (800,000 viewers) and most recently in March 2013 performed for David Tutera's live tour 'Dream Bigger'.
Summer is presently planning her forth coming album, and PBS special to be launched in 2013.
Summer is an active philanthropist using her voice to support various charitable causes. She has sung at the Palais Hoffburg, Vienna, for the Anti-Human trafficking campaign for the United Nations (working with Ricky Martin, Julia Ormond and Emma Thompson) and for the British Red Cross singing at the 2005 fundraiser at the Great Hall, London. She personally donated a prize for auction which was sold for £36,000. In 2007 She was nominated Ambassador for Magic Bus (a charity for under-privileged children in India), as well as Ambassador for Adopt Sri Lanka (which raised £3million to rebuild communities after the 2006 Tsunami). Most recently Summer was made part of the Board of Directors of OperaWorks, a training programme for Opera singers in California which is world renowned.
