Sara Callanan Pianist from Reston, VA

I'm Sara Callanan, and I've been an active musician since childhood. I attended the Eastman School of Music for 2 years and studied Jazz Improvisation with Chuck Mangione. I completed my B.A. in Music, with honors, at the University of Maryland. I play classical piano, jazz piano, pop from many decades (30s-90s) new age, Broadway, etc. I sing and accompany myself on piano in these styles: pop, jazz, Broadway, some classical. I have played hundreds of weddings as organist, pianist, singer, pianist/singer, and as a member of trio of flute (me), violin and cello. I have played close to a hundred wedding receptions and other events as cocktail pianist/singer--lots of different styles. I have worked as a duo with my husband as flute/guitar, voice/guitar or flute&voice/guitar. We have also worked together as singer/pianist plus bass. I've played at historic and prestigious places in the DC area, including The Cosmos Club, Anderson House, The Corcoran Gallery, Ft. Myer Chapel, and as a soloist in the Choir of the National Shrine. I'm very comfortable doing a whole wedding; prelude music, processional, ceremony music (sung and played) , recessional music, cocktail music, and reception music (possibly with added players). I can sing just about any kind of classical music--Italian arias, I'm there. I'm a good flutist, "play well with others" have tons of sheet music for duos, trios, etc. I'm a very good accompanist--have worked with violinists and singers for 20 years or so. Most interested in singer/pianist gigs where I can do a variety of music that suits the occasion and in ambient piano gigs. And of course, weddings. Comfortable with almost any kind of church. I have an enormous library of printed music, and if given some lead time, can learn up to 4 previously unknown pieces for a gig. I have a huge repertoire of Christmas music that goes from traditional to jazzy to Celtic to just plain beautiful. I love playing for Christmas parties!
