Chris Benavidez Band (formerly Giant Steps Jazz) is a 4-piece instrumental jazz band - Saxophone, Piano, Bass, and Drums. The band plays instrumental jazz music from Miles Davis, Buddy Rich, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Cole Porter, Charlie Parker, Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, Branford Marsalis, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and many more.
As a professional band we've played hundreds of weddings, parties, and events all over Arizona. Some of our customers are The NFL, The Boulders Resort, The Phoenician, Visa Card, The Phoenix Symphony, Chandler Jazz Festival, The Lost Leaf Gallery, and The Phoenix Art Museum.
About Our Saxophonist, Chris Benavidez:
Chris Benavidez is one of the most talented and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade since 2005. In high school, Chris finished First Place at The All State Jazz Band in Phoenix, AZ; the highest position achievable amongst young jazz musicians state wide. Benavidez went on to college at Northern Arizona University where he earned a B.A. in Music Performance with an emphasis in Jazz. At NAU, Chris worked extensively with the world renowned Bassist, Joel DiBartolo (of “The Tonight Show Band” with Johnny Carson), Zirque Bonner (Bass player for Stanley Jordan), and Joe Palmer (Saxophonist for the Woody Herman Band). Chris worked as Professor of Music at Coconino Community College, School of Music, in Flagstaff. Chris is a founding member of The Giant Steps Jazz Band and Owner of Perfect Piano Tuning. Currently, Chris is working on his first album with the band Sans Pagaie. The album will be released in late 2016 or early 2017.
