From a dark jail cell to a lit up podium, Abdul S. Muhammad is a testament to the power of faith, determination and resilience. Following incarceration and almost losing his family, this compassionate and enlightened author, public speaker, mentor and community activist has avowed to help those with similar stories. Muhammad has traveled across the country for over fifteen years empowering at-risk youth, fathers and communities with his riveting testimonies, magnetic personality, and fiery words. Understanding the crucial importance of mentoring, he has mentored at programs such as: Essex County Youth Detention Center, Washington Dodd Community Center, and Street Warrior Male Mentor Program. Muhammad has been influential as a former Administrator and Educational Director for the Street Warriors, Inc. and Chairman of the NJ anti-Violence Coalition. Currently he is the Co-director of the Newark Comprehensive Center for Fathers, Fathers Now, founded by then Newark Mayor and now United States Senator the Hon. Cory A. Booker.
