Hannah Romanowsky M.A. has been researching, embodying, and teaching women's dances from the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia for over two decades, and was initially trained in the western classical dance arts. Hannah is devoted to dance as a vehicle of joy, healing, and transformation and is passionate about sharing the profound healing benefits of movement and the expressive arts with her clients and audiences. Through her work Hannah also seeks to shine light on the rich cultural legacy of the Middle East in order to foster appreciation, connection, and an expanded vision of our shared humanity. Hannah holds a B.A. in Dance Ethnology and World Music, an M.A. in East-West Psychology, and is founding director of the Scheherazade School of Sacred Movement. As a specialist in movement, healing and spirituality, her interdisciplinary background in women's dance and rituals from the Middle East and Central Asia, religious studies, women's spiritual history, psychological and spiritual development, philosophy, somatic trauma therapy, and ethnology informs her understanding and approach to dance as sacred expression and embodied medicine. While continuing to educate dance aficionados and the general public on dance technique, culture and history through performances, lecture presentations, classes, workshops, private coaching, and weekend intensives, Hannah also mentors clients therapeutically and hosts women's sacred dance workshops and weekend immersions. As a performing artist Hannah has danced in such venues at the British Museum, Houston's Museum of Fine Arts, San Francisco's Asian Art Museum, San Francisco's esteemed Ethnic Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts, the Roof of the World Festival in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, the Desert Dance Festival in India, and on Chinese television. She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Padida Dance Theater in Dushanbe, and has taught workshops in Europe and North America.
