Relaxed, audience friendly Jazz, Bossa Nova, and Blues for receptions, dinners, weddings, restaurants, fundraisers, corporate events, charities, festivals, and other special occasions.
On the Cool Side is an Atlanta band featuring classic Jazz, Bossa Nova, and Blues. We perform vocals and instrumentals in an easy style that adds a touch of class to any occasion. Our vocal repertoire draws from catchy Swing and Bossa Nova songs, while our instrumentals are rooted in the bluesy Soul Jazz of the '50s and '60s. We have an ever expanding repertoire, and we're always eager to learn more. If you would like to hear a specific jazz song, we'll be happy to learn it if we don't already know it.
On the Cool Side offers three options. Normally we perform as a full quartet with guitar, piano, bass, and drums with optional Sinatra style vocals. If space is limited, or you're on a budget, Tom Godfrey and Robert Oliver can perform as a guitar/piano duo. If you're looking for soft, intimate music for a small gathering, Tom Godfrey can provide solo guitar with optional vocals.
Tom Godfrey, the leader of On the Cool Side, is active as a guitarist, singer, and music copyist. Tom earned a degree in music education from the University of Illinois in 1988 with trombone as his major instrument. Years later, while playing in the Air Force band at Langley Air Force Base, Tom suffered a career ending lip injury. Unable to stay away from music, Tom learned to play the guitar and quickly gravitated toward jazz. Currently, Tom writes and performs his own solo arrangements of jazz classics, leads his own jazz combo, On the Cool Side, and performs with Allen, Vinton, and Godfrey, whose original music borrows from jazz, rock, blues, reggae, and soul. In addition to performing, Tom has been a freelance music copyist since 1995 and has completed over 1,200 projects to date.
