QUICK BIO - Bob Baldwin, the Mt. Vernon-born Pianist/Keyboardist and Arranger, is a Grammy-nominated producer whose credits include George Benson, Will Downing, Marion Meadows, Phil Perry, and the late great Grover Washington, Jr., to name a select few. His music at the root is jazz, but he also has influences in R&B, Pop and Gospel and world music.
He has recorded on four continents like Dubai, England, Brazil, South Africa and of course, his native soil in the US. His band has an international vibe, with musicians of European and Brazilian descent.
In 2015, he released his 21st solo recording, "MelloWonder / Songs in the Key of Stevie", a musical salute to the living legend and Humanitarian extraordinaire, Stevie Wonder. In 2017, look for a musical tribute to a pop icon (to be mentioned later). Since 2000, Baldwin has charted a total of 8 times on the Billboard Jazz Charts.
Baldwin is the ONLY artist in the smooth Jazz genre that featured a musical tribute to those who lost their lives during 9/11/01 entitled "The American Spirit"...his 'theme' records like 'Brazil Chill", "Welcome To the Games" has all charted top10 Billboard Contemporary Jazz.
His musical salutes to such greats as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson (posthumous), and Thom Bell, who penned such great hits for Soul/Pop groups like the Stylistics, Delfonics, Spinners, have all been endorsed by the aforementioned Wonder and Bell...and have also charted top10 Billboard Contemporary Jazz.
In the last 15 years, Baldwin has performed at the following venues to crowds up to 30,000, including
The Dubai Jazz Festival, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz (South Africa), The Brazilian-American Jazz Festival, Augsburg Jazz Fest (Germany).
In Hartford, he headlined with Tom Browne, Walter Beasley, to a hungry jazz crowd of 30,000.
He has yet to play in the Far East....looking forward to JAPAN, where his music sells tremendously.
Other notable venues include:
a) Catalina Island Jazz fest
b) The Newport Beach Jazz Festival (Baldwin, Najee, Will Downing, Patti Austin) and....
c) The City of Lights Jazz Festival with Kim Waters, Peter White, Richard Elliot, Chuck Loeb, Freddie Ravel and others
d) The DC-Based American Jazz Festival with the Crusaders/Randy Crawford/Joe Sample, Michael Lington, Norman Brown, Mindi Abair
e) The Trenton Jazz Festival, once with Will Downing, and then Bob Baldwin/Phil Perry, Angie Bofill and Grammy Award NY-Flautist Dave Valentin,
f) The Riviera Beach Jazz Festival (Fl.) with Marion Meadows and the legendary O'Jays,
g) The Jacksonville Jazz Festival (Fl.) with Joshua Redman, Pieces of A Dream and others
h) Headliner at the Asbury Park Jazz Festival - 2003
FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE, other guest artists can be added to the show.
In the past, we've worked with Marion Meadows, Phil Perry, Walter Beasley, Chuck Loeb, Will Downing, Rick Braun, and Kirk Whalum, to name a select few.
When budget is available, this works in medium to large venues over 1,500 capacity.
When you book the Baldwin and Friends band, look forward to a great band with lots of positive energy with a far-reaching diverse cultural blend. You will quickly become a fan.
Additionally, if you are a college or University, Bob Baldwin is also an author with his book, "You Better Ask Somebody", which speaks to his 30+ years in the music business, and can do symposiums that includes Music Business, understanding Publishing, the world of Digital music, and more...this taps into a 30-year pool of knowledge by the artist himself.
