Jim Alves Motivational Speaker from Coventry, RI

My father was a football coach and Physical Education teacher for over 30 years. He instilled an incredible amount of drive, work ethic, and motivation in his children and players. These qualities and countless competitive experiences coupled with my need to help people - drive me daily to be successful as a school administrator and coach. My father had a stroke and brain surgery that left him paralyzed - needing a feeding tube and tracheotomy. He could not talk eat or move for approximately 13 years before passing. Visiting him weekly to update him on our family gave a tremendous amount of confidence and strength to make a difference in young lives as an educator and coach. I've been an educator in Rhode Island for over 23 years. I currently in my 13th year as the Assistant Principal and Truancy Officer at Exeter-West Greenwich High School. Before obtaining my Master's Degree at Providence College in Administration, I was a Business teacher at Coventry High School for 10 years. In addition to teaching Business, I was the Advisor of our D.E.C.A. (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Every year Rhode Island would send about 60 students to the National Competition, approximately 30 of those students were from Coventry High School. Our D.E.C.A. program ran an annual Christmas Project that obtained and delivered approximately 5,000 presents to needy children and elderly patients in nursing homes. This project ended up winning D.E.C.A.'s National Competition for Civic Consciousness. In addition to these careers, I've coached High School Football (30 years), Wrestling (12 years) and Softball (3 years). I've been lucky enough to coach 10 teams that made it to the Super Bowl, seven - ended up State Champions. Our wrestling team won two Championships, and the softball team won one. I believe that coaching parallels motivating and teaching people. These skills can be uniformly applied to any situation needing inspiration or motivation.
