Named….“the best Roma (Gypsy) singer in the United States”
Vasily Yankovich hails from the Moscow Gypsy Romen Theater and has toured extensively nationally and internationally. He sings classical Gypsy songs and romances and played for Russian President Putin when he visited New York's Guggenheim Museum. Vasily Yankovich also plays professionally the seven-string Gypsy Guitar and has an extensive repertoire of Russian, Ukrainian, Italian and international popular songs.
A Concert Recital in Carnegie Hall drew a full house and a standing ovation and in New York's famed experimental La Mama Theatre, Vasily performed two shows: 'The Brothers Karamazov' and the 'The Defense of Prague.'
From Russian weddings in Brooklyn's International Cabaret, and Mikhail Baryshnikov's Russian
Samovar in Manhattan, Yankovich has played for Pope Paul, the Prince Albert of Monaco and guests like Oscar De La Renta, Regis Philbin and Barbara Walters.
“Gypsy music is special,” says Vasily. “In the 19th century gypsies were popular and famous for their beautiful, bright costumes. In Russia, people invite gypsies to weddings because they bring luck and good fortune”.
“We are so happy to be able to give people our energy, our talent, the beauty of our musical arts, and the gypsy rhythm. This is my job, to make people happy.”
Around the world, Russian Gypsy musicians and dancers bring a lavish profusion of passion, romance and festivity to wedding celebrations. Lords and Ladies, Kings and Queens would not think of a wedding without gypsy musicians and their long tradition of magical and enticing music.
Whether a grand celebration, an on-stage concert or an intimate time of reception, Gypsy singer Vasily Yankovich is always an occasion of mirthful delight and pleasing merriment. A rich tradition of the music, dance and culture of the gypsies is an absolutely incredible experience of passion, mystique and jubilation. In 1991, Vasily came to the United States from Russia. “I came for the freedoms of America, I have become a citizen of the United States and am honored to be one among my new American family”.
