Bass guitarist, rhythm guitarist songwriter and arranger Robert L. Simmons from Calumet City, Illinois (USA) is truly an all-around artist and considers himself as a Rock, Jazz, Gospel, Funk, Contemporary Christian and all around eclectic musician. According to Robert his biggest interest is to influence and touch people. They should laugh or cry or get up and dance or praise God as long as they react.
My musical influences cover a very wide range, partly because of my respect for other styles and cultures. I am also inspired by all Bass players I hear and have a respect for all musicians. Because I understand the basic role of the Bass, I focus on keeping the pocket and supporting the lead whether it's another instrument or vocalist.
I've been fortunate to play in many rewarding musical settings in various genres: Funk, Rock, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Motown, Reggae, Gospel, Folk, Country and Christian Rock. It's all music to me! I've been told on a number of occasions and by various musicians that I have a “healthy respect for notes.”
Recently I just finished recording tracks for some awesome up and coming artist, i.e. vocalist Abel Esteban, Teresa Davis, Blues/Rock Guitarist Sidney Swanson and Trumpeter Chris Davis. I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with The Clark Sisters, The Frank Paul Band, Motown Revue, Kristel Myrden, Jessie Dixon, Alvin Slaughter, Darlene Zchech, as well as opened or performed with Ricardo Sanchez, John Gray, Cece Winans, Israel Houghton and Tye Tribbett.
