Billy Stewart Guitarist from Chapel Hill, NC

Billy Stewart is a performing guitarist trained in classical guitar technique but adding composition and improvisation to that standard. His repertoire includes music from the renaissance to the 21st Century of Classical Guitar literature as well as arrangements of Jazz and Popular standards with improvisational sections. He also performs his own compositions as listed in the CD for solo guitar entitled 'Whispers'. Billy has studied Classical Guitar with Pepe Romero and attended Master Classes with Elliot Fisk, Manuel Barreuco and Ricardo Cobo. He has studied improvisation with Ralph Towner and John Abercrombie and composition with John Duarte and Leo Brouwer. Mr. Stewart has taught guitar in the Music Department of UNC-Chapel Hill for over 40 years and performed solo concerts and public performances in the Southeast region of he US in such venues as Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla., the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC as well as the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh, NC.
