We have two bands for your consideration!!
**ZEN GROOVE FUNKESTRA: Jazz Funk & Voodoo Grooves **
The Zen Groove Funkestra is a collective of artists and musicians based in Chapel Hill, NC. The group has wowed audiences across the southeast with it's unique brand of jazz funk and voodoo vibes. The groove is deep, blending the influences of New Orleans, New York City, and Los Angeles, and the sound is referential of Lettuce, Medeski Martin & Wood and John Scofield. Instrumentation includes guitar(s), bass, drums, and horns.
We play a mix of original funky tunes and covers from the the jazz / funk songbook. Every performance is a cathartic, sweaty experience of dancing, hooting and hollering. If you want your party to be off the hook, give us a call.
**THE UPWARD DOGS: Jazz / Funk / Hip Hop **
Imagine a DJ with crates of records of rare grooves, samples from the hippest producers, and tastes from Africa, Latin America, the freshest scenes in the US and beyond. The DJ makes you move, controls your energy, implicitly tells you when to lay in the cut, when to throw down hard, when to lose your mind and question everything in your life that was separating you from that single moment of ecstasy. That's what The Upward Dogs do, too, with a live band.
Whatever the scene: a festival performance, a loft party, a gallery opening, a recording session, a private concert in your living room... We will curate a cutting edge, "downtown" vibe of the freshest blend of jazz, funk, hip hop and whatever other muses come through from the other side, all perfectly attenuated and calibrated to the real-time experience of the audience. It's only an interesting sidebar to realize that we are heavily reliant on improvisation. You wouldn't know it from any obvious cues... but you feel the spontaneity. The risk taking. The danger. It's electric.
I have a rolodex of world class musicians around the US - Chi-town, NYC, LA, NOLA, and beyond - ready and willing to heed my Bat Signal and assemble at once. We channel the energy of the universe and make people shake their asses on the dance floor. Rinse. Repeat. Let's do this!
