Fr. Ron & Friends is a folk group playing mostly music from the 19th and 20th century. Woody Guthrie, Odetta, Lead Belly, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan tunes are included. In addition, the band plays some originals that match the music from this era. Hard Living Man, Refugee, Peregrinatio and other originals highlight the set list. The Friends play in such bands as the Prescriptions; Subliminators; 61 South; Mikayla Braun; Crooked Vines; Sturmlandia; Olivia Greene; Nigel Ra'of; House of Bishops Zydeco Show and Blues Review; and many other groups that have long played New Orleans and the Gulf South. Their broad musical experience has brought a depth to the Great American Folk Song Singalong. The Great American Folk Song Singalong is an event where the audience participates in singing these great songs from the American songbook. The event helps bring back memories and spark a sense of connection with an important part of the American spirit. Fr. Ron Clingenpeel (an Episcopal priest, poet, composer, writer) leads the band with voice, guitars and ukulele. Other members include: Olivia Greene, vocals; Chris Young, bass & vocals; Sammi Foti, vocals and piano; Nigel Ra'of, vocals; Lauren Sturm, vocals and piano; Mikayla Braun, vocals and ukulele; Robert Eustis, mandolin and vocals; Richardo Baerga-Ibanez; banjo and vocals. In the Midwest we have: Carolyn Munch voice, recorder, harmonica, percussion; Leslie Scoopmire vocals and guitar; Zachary Clingenpeel guitar and vocals; Ben Schabelski, bass. Any number of the Friends might be at any performance.
