Basket Landing is from Hankins, New York, a small town located on the banks of the upper Delaware River. Our name is taken from a beautiful spot on the river near our homes. We sing traditional music from England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the American heartland.
Basket Landing is accompanied by the Basket Landing Dancers for many of its performances. The dancers range from ages eight to twenty-two and perform a wide variety of international folk dances, including Ukrainian, Irish, Scottish, English, Italian, Bulgarian and American selections.
Our group was born out of a singing tradition going back forty years in our family of gathering on Saturday night (and sometimes into early Sunday morning!) with friends and neighbors to sing folk music with our friends and neighbors. These gatherings started in connection with a small recovery center for alcohol and drug addicts, and the tradition continues to this day. These musical get-togethers have been a factor of joy and healing in the recovery of thousands of addicts over the years. For those of us who were brought up in these families as the children of recovered addicts, the weekly sings were a wonderful early experience of the magic of traditional folk music.
Thank you for reading about us and we hope to see you some day in concert!
