When I opened the doors 4 years ago my goal was to provide fresh, California grown flowers. It seems so simple, right?
I quickly ran into difficulties due to order minimums, high shipping costs, and availability of California grown flowers. As a small shop just starting out, I was overly eager to find any flower a customer requested at any time of the year just to make a sale. I quickly followed suit with every other florist in the area and I found myself in line, at the wholesaler, purchasing imported flowers.
Don't get me wrong, the ability to get flowers shipped from around the world at any time of theyear is amazing, but it comes at a cost. It's expensive to ship a rose grown in Ecuador to Miami and then California and it's not the most eco-friendly option.
In California, growers abide by strict chemical regulations in order to protect our products, our workers, and our environment. Besides these standards, the regulations on labor in California compared to other parts of the world are another reason why we support our growers, from treatment of workers to pay and protection.
I am proud to say after four years of research and dedication to buying California grown flowers, Flower Bar, in its growth, is now ready to offer the California Bouquet. To celebrate, along with our fourth anniversary, we will be giving away these bouquets on March 7th! Stop by, support local farmers, and pick up your free bouquet.
