My service as a musician has been geared to provide a specific style of flamenco which rests on traditional flamenco, but may hint at, or incorporate ideas from, jazz, middle-eastern and Latin music.
If you would like a traditional flamenco show with dance and voice, that is certainly one option.
I also can provide music as soloist, duo, trio, quartet, and quintet.
The instrumentation can include guitar, laúd, saz, upright or electric bass, cajan, djembe, bongo, shakers, hi-hat, snare, def/daf, and/or darbuka/dumbek. These instruments allow us to create a wide variety of musical textures.
I have purchased some very high quality audio equipment to create a rich and beautiful sound that leave guests feeling that they have experienced something very memorable.
Please contact me if you would like more information on availability or pricing for various formations.
We can travel most easily throughout Southern and Central California, although we can consider further travel if you wish.
I am focused on a fairly broad, contemporary style of flamenco which utilizes many of the 60 - 80 song forms. Yes, flamenco consists of song forms, most of which derive their structure from the way they are sung. This artistic choice gives me a the broadest variety of rhythms, harmony and possible sounds to work with and makes each song sound as different as is possible within the same musical genre.
Flamenco is a very, very complex and rich musical tradition that requires many years of focus to do well.
My choice is to be focused, and do this one thing the best I possibly can.
The others who perform with me are well trained musicians with experience performing for corporate and private events as well as weddings and are compensated fairly because they have spent the time it takes to learn the tunes in my repertoire, their knowledge of the style, and because I value their skills. Hence, I pay them a higher percentage of the overall fee I charge clients than do many others.
My pricing for a wedding begins at $550 as soloist and includes my own acoustic amp at the ceremony and a separate PA for cocktail hour.
For corporate and private events, I ask $300 for the 1st hour, then $100 - $125 each additional hour within San Diego County and for groups up to 150. Groups larger than 150 need additional sound equipment which begins at an additional $100.
Duo pricing begins at about $750 within San Diego.
Trio pricing begins at about $1,100 within San Diego.
Quartet pricing begins at about $1,500 within San Diego.
Quintet pricing begins at about $1,900 within San Diego.
I am insured, and a basic certificate can be included upon request and does not cost extra. Additionally required coverages may require additional fees and need to be discussed at the time of writing a contract.
I ask for a 2 hour minimum for events Friday & Saturday after 3:00.
I can provide additional microphones and/or a full PA upon request. I usually ask $200 for an additional PA system covering ~50 - 150 guests.
If you choose to have flamenco dance, a decent sounding, wooden dance floor is non-negotiable and I can provide one for $100 when set-up and breakdown do not require elevators. I may ask an additional $50 to cart the floor up stairs or an elevator.
I do ask that events in which a trio, or more musicians and/or dancers are confirmed no later than 1 month beforehand. Although, if you decide to include music closer to your event, please contact me to check availability as we may have a given date open.
