As an educator Paul lectured World Music, Percussion, Jazz Studies and Electronic Music and directed Jazz Band and Orchestra.Paul's company, Atlanta Event Music, has provided educational programming since 1995, receiving the 1997 Dorothy Mullen National Arts Award for "The Bessie Bus", a mobile jazz and blues program; and provided audio/video production/editing and inter-active exhibits including the National Afro-American Museum on the exhibit "When the Spirit Moves" at the Smithsonian Institution. *** A Professor of World Music, Percussion & Jazz, Paul may also be contacted for Lecture/Demonstrations or Private STEEL PAN LESSONS & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. Paul has opened concerts for Joe South, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The New York Voices, B.W. Stevenson & performed as a band member with Percy Sledge. Paul Newkirk has been compared to artists: James Taylor, Paul Simon & Bob Dylan. Paul delivers a warm, engaging & energetic stage presence. His versatile 300+ song repertoire appeals to a wide variety of audiences. Paul also performs as a solo act at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. STEEL PAN / DOUBLE SECONDS & BASS - L.A. TUTEN - Berklee School of Music graduate, L.A. was the conductor, arranger and trombonist for Seed & Feed Marching Abominable Band, spent a year with playing electric bass with the famous Nashville guitarist "Thumbs" Carlille and performed with Colonel Bruce Hampton and the Arkansas Travelers, and the Stained Souls. L.A. was bassist for EM/World recording artist Elise Witt, appearing on two albums: "Mezzanine" (1993); and "Open The Window" (1997). As a tuba player in the Ruby Red's revival band in Underground Atlanta he worked nightly with Rocky Ball and Marty Martin. Don Erdman, of Hotlanta Jazz Band, hired L.A. for the tuba chair. L.A. immediately began national and world tours as well as recording: "Live in Spain" (1992); and "Happy Feet" (1994). L.A.'s also performs jazz on the upright bass with the Ruby Reds Band and Atlanta Jazz Trio, and double seconds on the steel pan with Atlanta Steel Pan & Island Music! ISLAND & WORLD DRUMS - DAVE HOLLAND - Dave is founder and primary performer and facilitator of all Beatin' Path programs and drum circles. Dave spreads the message of community, teamwork, diversity, and environmental awareness through rhythm based events. Dave leads regular drum circles at regional area schools, public housing communities, health fairs and festivals. Dave is the leading member of Ritmo Blu, a world percussion trio that performs at regional schools and festivals.
