I'm a singer-songwriter who plays a mix of originals and covers.
Wow, that describes a lot of us, huh?
OK, let's see. I try to take a different approach to the whole singer-songwritery thing than a lot of my friends and contemporaries. I believe that cover choices can separate an artist from a song-bot, and I try to pick songs that stand out from the pack. What this means is that you're more likely to hear "Crazy Love" than "Brown-Eyed Girl," or "Baby Can I Hold You" instead of "Fast Car." "Sullivan Street" instead of "Mr. Jones." Cover choices range from Fall Out Boy to Bill Withers, from Patty Griffin to Weezer. I bring an iPad as well, and occasionally take requests for songs I haven't played, making for some fun, interesting, and occasionally triumphant results! (Also, I can learn anything you want me to. I'm a quick study and a great memorizer!)
And then there's the originals: I have a large catalogue of folk-pop original songs, mostly relationship-oriented stuff, wide ranges of feel. I'm known around town for writing tight, catchy songs with incisive and insightful lyrics. I often get texts from club owners and bar staff telling me that my songs are stuck in their heads, which to me is the highest praise you can get in this business!
I bring all of this to the table with a good attitude and a willingness to work with you to give you the show you want! Want less originals, more covers? No problem! Want more of a kick? For $100 extra ($200 for outside-of-NYC shows), I'll bring a friend who plays a small kit and sings backup, and we'll rock the house!
One thing people tend to comment on as well is that I have kind of a rough-hewn (bald, goatee) appearance, but a sweet and tender voice and delivery. They think they're getting heavy blues-rock music when they first see me, but then my bari-tenor rings out and I'm covering the Bangles and bluebirds are landing on your shoulder. It's a fun dynamic to have.
