Monica Bassi was born in Canada to Indian parents and raised in Tampa, Florida. From an early age she had a passion for learning which led her to become a multi-talented, multi-faceted Speaker.
At the young age of 16 Monica managed to trade in her senior year of high school for her freshman year at University. It was at the University of South Florida that she learned how to balance her passion with her responsibilities. Monica was an active member of several student organizations, and on the Executive Board of the Students of Indian Association. Meanwhile, she completed her degree in Management Information Systems at the age of 20 and entered the world of Corporate America.
Not yet of legal drinking age, Monica learned the skills necessary to thrive in an office environment. Being the youngest employee, female, and a minority, Monica faced several hurdles before her voice would be heard and her abilities noticed. For the latter half of her professional career she worked in Management roles, spearheading large projects and managing a global staff of Computer Engineers. In her personal life she took on the responsibility of financially supporting a few family members. As such, she bought her first house at age 22 for her mother and worked hard to pay it off by age 28. She has since picked up 2 additional properties to complete her small real estate portfolio.
Having a knack for connecting people, Monica started a successful speed dating company in parrallel to her professional career. During this time she was able to hone her speaking skills, as she would host each of the speed dating events. Once she gained the confidence to speak in public she began booking gigs as an Emcee and Event Host.
After Monica moved on from running her own business she joined a media production team in Tampa and became host of a web series. It was at this point that she realized her love for media. She began learning the process of film making from development to post production and put her skills to use when she produced her first short film, Fresh Arrangement. Monica went on to produce 2 additional short films and enrolled in acting classes where she learned the Eric Morris process of irreverent acting.
In 2012 Monica moved to New York City to continue growing in the realm of media. She began working with international networks Zee TV and B4U where she would write and host several shows. With a broad network of actors at her fingertips Monica also picked up jobs as Casting Director. Her full-time career as a Project Manager lent to her success as a Casting Director since it requires a great deal of management and organization.
While freelancing for TV networks Monica began following a vegan lifestyle. Thrilled about the number of vegan restaurants in New York city she began producing a web series titled Meatless Manhattan. Meatless Manhattan showcased the best of vegan dining in the city and would soon become a TV pilot. William Morris took interest in the pilot and pitched it to noteworthy production companies in the city. Monica has since obtained her certification in Plant-based Nutrition and Meatless Manhattan has evolved into an active blog.
Monica's thirst for knowledge and love of people have taken her to 23 countries where she enjoyed immersing herself in local culture. She frequently travels with her camera gear and produces travel shows for her youtube channel.
Whether it's about thriving in the workplace as a minority or breaking one's own barriers, or learning the delicate art of balance, Monica is equipped to speak and empower audiences. She has taken her own story and coupled it with what she has learned about humanity through her rich experiences and travels and turned it into a series of talks. Monica brings eloquence, charisma, and a knack for connecting with others with her on stage.
When Monica isn't working she is a Wife and Mom to a baby girl. Life has neither started nor is anywhere near complete for her. Everything Monica has accomplished has been a product of her fierce determination. From maintaining a career in IT to making strides in media and growing as a Speaker, Monica continues to push her limits and live every experience to the fullest.
