The men behind the music of The Dukes of Doo Wop have extensive backgrounds in this arena.

Lou Phillips started in the music business in 1964 in his hometown of Bayonne, N.J. as a vocalist and a bass player. Lou performed at many clubs throughout N.Y./ N.J. area from 1964-68 and formed a band called “The Cotton Rust Blues Band.” It became very popular in the Greenwich Village music scene. Playing at Café Bizzare. “Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show” visited the Café and convinced Lou to merge their groups. They shared concert stages with the likes of the “James Gang,” “Savoy Brown,” “Grass Roots,” and “Brooklyn Bridge.” In 1969, Lou left the group to pursue other musical interests traveling through the US and the Far East. IN 1980, Lou performed with his band “YT & T” @ the South Florida restaurant “Bambino D'oro” owned by Dan Marino and where Marino's show was taped weekly. Today, Lou Phillips is still performing throughout Florida with his “YT & T Band” and now, with the newly formed “The Dukes of Doo Wop.” In addition to playing guitar and bass, Lou's specialty is his authentic vocal stylings complimented by a wide octave range allowing him to cover many genres of music from Rock, Pop to Standards.

Dave Francis started his singing career in the late 1950's in Jersey City, N.J.He sang doo-wop with many groups during that time, including a group, who after a few name changes became “The Duprees”.”Have You Heard”, “My Own True Love,” and “You Belong to Me.” With Doo-wop at its peak, Dave spent many nights singing in Washington Square Park in New York City where musicians and singers would meet and organize bands/groups. He was privileged to jam with many groups that eventually became famous; “Dion & The Belmonts,” “The Four Seasons,” and “The Aristocats.” To name a few. After returning from a hitch in the Army in the early 1960's, the British music invasion was in full swing and doo-wop seemed to be on its way out. Dave spent the next several years working with trios and small groups throughout the country helping to keep the great old doo wop music alive.

Johnny Rod started in the music business in 1959, playing guitar and singing backup for the group “The Electras.” They became the #1 group in Utica, NY, where Johnny was born. He later toured the USA with many groups: The Sundowners, The Boxtops, The Buckinghams, and Johnny Rod and The Dominoes. He also had a 50's show band: “Johnny and the Hot Rods.” He has performed on stage with Gary Puckett, Three Dog Night, Spencer Daves Group, The Four Seasons, and in 2012 with Rock n' Roller Sandy Posey and her husband Elvis Wade. Recorded many songs: “Kind of a Drag,” “Hey Baby, They're Playing Our Song”, “Susan”, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” “Don't You Care.”
