The Blue Sand Band hails from Greensboro, North Carolina and represents the finest in dance music and excellence in entertainment. The group is comprised of six members with over 25 years of combined performance experience,and brings its' own flavor to standard and contemporary dance music.
The group's seasoned musicians provide a professional show unparalleled by other dance bands Lead vocalist Sandra Banks Thompson is a two time winner of The Budweiser Showdown, where she received top ranking in the Eastern Atlantic Region. Lead guitarist, Jeff Lawrence has played all over the United States, and formed his own rock band in Europe playing in venues in Scotland, London, and many European cities. Drummer, Latham Donnelly, is a classically trained musician, studying at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and has toured the Atlantic east coast and Canada with a large array of bands, playing a variety of music including rock, jazz, Top 40 and country.
The band's diverse repertoire of jazz, R&B, pop, Neo-soul, beach and country reveals the versatility and mass appeal it brings to every event. From the hard hitting sounds of the Doobie Brothers to the smooth sounds of Sade and Maxwell, an evening with The Blue Sand Band is both exciting and full of surprises. Lead vocalist J. Anthony soulfully sings songs by Usher, then wows the crowd with songs and dance steps from the king of pop—Michael Jackson. Then the band's party master, keyboardist, and vocalist, Michael Thompson starts the party with The Cupid Shuffle and EU's Da Butt. Bassist, Chris Kinney plays the smooth jazz sounds of Herbie Hancock, then brings the house down with his funky rendition of Fantastic Voyage by Lakeside. Music master and keyboardist J. Stevenson holds it all down with his beautiful melodic chords in ballads such as Jill Scott's The Way, and then rocks the house with funky solos in Jungle Love and Word Up.
The band has appeared in various venues, including Bentley's in Greensboro, Talk of the Town in Durham, Yancy's in Raleigh, Shooter's Bar and Grill in Greensboro, and Greensboro's Festival Park.
