How The Dominos Band got started!
Terry king played guitar with the group Deja' Vu in the Hammond, Louisiana area from 1988 - 1991. The band was planning to disband after the new year in 1991, and Terry started thinking of putting another band together...
He was on a cruise with some friends in the fall of 1991 and approached long-time friend, Joe Abene, to sing in the cruise ship talent competition that week. Terry wanted to play guitar but knew if he started singing some passengers may abandon ship. Joe agreed and the rest is history. The duo was a huge hit on the ship, and Joe proved to be a natural entertainer and showman.
When the cruise ended, Terry and Joe contacted some other friends and put the Dominos together. Terry contacted Jerrell Grice who he enjoyed playing with earlier. Joe knew Charlene Kelly who sang professionally in gospel groups and had a desire to get back into music.
With the addition of a great rhythm and horn section, the group was immediately popular and successful. After the first performance in early 1992 in Pearl River, the band began playing regularly for festivals, private parties, weddings and other functions.
Dominos have played at the Governor's Mansion, the Baton Rouge River Center, the French Quarter, Chesterton Square, Strawberry Festival, corporate parties, and many other venues throughout southeast Louisiana.
The Dominos have a diverse repertoire that includes oldies, feel good songs from the 60s, rock and roll, country, and timeless classics.
Joe and Charlene provide exciting covers from the great hits of Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Van Broussard, Elvis Presley, Irma Thomas, Whitney Houston,Etta James, and many others. The band's unique chemistry and commitment to pleasing the audience draws rave reviews, and creates a complete experience where everyone can dance the night away!
