Out of the Blue was formed in the spring of 2011. Andy Thomas and Johnnie Bradshaw had met about a year earlier and with two other partners started the Stars Over Texas Jamboree in Waco, Texas. Andy and Johnnie started the band with three other musicians including Rich Burdett-lead guitarist.
Andy lived and grew up in the Kilgore area and early in life developed an appreciation for traditional country singers like Ray Price, Faron Young, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins and others. A little later he became a big fan of George Strait. He sang live for the first time while working the old fields around Odessa. Andy lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the 80's and early 90's and sang at many of the oprys in the Dallas area. He met a local songwriter by the name of Larry Fargo and in 1991 recorded 10 of Larry's songs. The album "Out of the Blue" won album of the year from the Metroplex Country Music Association.
Johnnie Bradshaw is a well known name in Waco and Central Texas music circles having been a member of the Starlites featuring Phil Duckett who are inductees in the M.A.C.T.Hall of Recogniton. Johnnie ran his own popular country band -The Bradshaw Gang. Johnnie was the singer of the popular and controversial single "So Long, Texas-Hello, Mexico" by Johnny Tex and the Texicans in 2006. He also is the founder and President of the Music Association of Central Texas. Johjnnie contributes vocally with songs from Josh Turner, Jim Reeves, Ernest Tubb and Charlie Pride.
Out of the Blue with Andy Thomas has proven to be a popular country dance band combining Andy's love of Ray Price and George Strait songs with more recent hits from Chris Young, Blake Shelton and others and oldies from the 50's and 60's. Several of Andy and Larry's original songs are included in the set list as evidenced by the band's name. Loyd Folz on bass from Temple and Wallace Pelton from Waco on steel guitar and keyboards join Johnnie on drums and Rich on lead guitar for the primary instrumentation for the band. When the club, event and budget call for it, another lead guitar, fiddle or keyboards are added.
Out of the Blue performs regularly throughout Central Texas and are available for clubs, weddings and private parties. The band is scheduled to begin performing regularly at the Cotton Club in Granger where many of the top bands in Texas perform. We are please to have recently agreed to be represented by Gary Welch's Big Valley Agency of Copperas Cove.
