Since the mid 1990s Mattie Blue has entertained audiences at home and abroad. Performing in small venues in Mexico and the Caribbean Islands to performing in many places in the Continental United States. Today mostly performing around his home in Cleveland Ohio with his bands Ohio Wilde and, The Tabloid Twangers, Mattie strives to entertain his many fans.
Mattie started his semi-professional music career in 1996 when he joined the Cleveland local country band Heartland as a rhythm guitarist and background vocalist. He soon left the group in 1997 to start Lonesome & Blue, a Cleveland country duo playing small venues like The Grovewood Tavern & Wine Bar and The Barking Spider. One night while performing at the Red Star Café (Lakewood, Ohio) Mattie met Sugar, a talented local upright bass player. Soon Lonesome & Blue & Sugar added new members (Dennis Bell and Bill “Smitty” Webb) and called themselves The Red Star Rangers! The Red Star Rangers played the local Cleveland Honky-tonk/Rockabilly scene until 2002 when 3 of their members got signed to a small label as the group Lords Of The Highway, a psycho-billy trio. Mattie then formed The Memphis Kings with musicians like David Loy, Randy Chesnut, and Charlie Hilderbrandt. The group eventually broke up and Mattie took to performing his solo shows around town(Cleveland Ohio). In early 2002 Mattie teamed up with long time friend and fellow musician, Johnny Mac ( Hayshaker Jones) and Bill Webb(The Rocket 88s). They recruited Mark Biviano(Hayshaker Jones) and soon began playing shows around Cleveland. The new group was named The Tabloid Twangers!
Today, Mattie performs regularly with The Tabloid Twangers and also as a soloist. During his 20+ years as a musician he has composed a collection of original songs. Some of his most noted songs are: Buzzn', Rock n Roll Baby, Downtown, End Of Time, and Staci South Dakota. His most recent release is Don't Want Your Love, a song about the struggles of people who experience emotional abuse.
“I write songs about real life experiences and people I've met and their stories” says Mattie…
“Staci S.D is about a trucker who falls in love with a girl he meets and can't get her off his mind. Rock n Roll Baby is about those rock n roll girls of the 1950s. End Of Time is a modern country duet about true love.
He is currently working on “Don't Want Your Love” which will feature Mattie and lots of his long time friends. Look for it in stores near you or download it on itunes in late 2016.
