With a career that started at IBM in robotics, Steve has always focused on automating business processes or simplifying user experiences with technology. As an engineer and entrepreneur, Steve's early career and companies focused on helping clients to develop new technology and products in the consumer, healthcare, marine, and aviation markets. Steve also brings a unique perspective to sales and marketing, as he has personally made the transition from product developer, to sales, to CEO. He is an example of a non-sales person becoming an effective sales driver for his business. He teaches others how to develop the skills necessary to be a sales guru, driving success for their company. For the past 18 years, his guidance has produced an award-winning automation platform for DocuPhase in the Content Management and Business Process Automation space as well as recognition as one of Tampa Bay's "Best Places to Work" for 8 years. Steve grew up in a low-income, single-parent family in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he graduated from Lakewood High School. He struggled to read in the 5th grade and was placed in full-time learning disabilities classes. He was able to overcome his severe dyslexia and attend the University of Florida for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science on an academic scholarship, though he did NOT graduate. After spending two and a half years in North Carolina working at IBM in manufacturing robotics, he returned to Clearwater, Florida and started an engineering consulting firm for electronic product development, designing both hardware and software-based products for other firms. Most importantly, he illustrates that anyone with a true desire to have his or her own business CAN, and that a business DOES NOT need to be technology-based to be successful. Steve made a critical transition from an Engineer, to a Sales Executive, and then to a CEO, which emphasizes his continual state of learning. Having failed many times in entrepreneurial endeavors, he understands it is a constant journey of self-improvement, learning quickly from your mistakes, and constantly applying corrective actions that lead to success! Steve has spoken at numerous Leadership Summits, including just recently a presentation to High-Level Operators at CentCom - U.S. Central Command in July, 2017 in an address titled "Go from Fighting for The American Dream to Living It! - An Entrepreneurial Approach to Leaving Military Service". In addition, his presentations are lively and will leave you with a sense of "I Can Do This!" In 2014, Steve founded the Technical Arts Facility for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, (now Florida Business Incubators), a business incubator that promotes entrepreneurship in Pinellas County. Since August 2015, Steve has been the Program Chair, mentor, and contributor for the Pinellas County Education Foundation's Next Generation Entrepreneurs program and continues to educate students and young adults on the entrepreneurial process, enabling them to successfully compete in a prize-based competition and launch their innovative new business ideas. As a technology-driven person with a passion for creativity and aesthetics, his career has taken him all over the world, designing a wide variety of products, including robotic systems, consumer products, and advanced business software. His experiences as an engineer have often focused on leveraging technology to automate tasks and activities that were once done by people, and creating the user interfaces that make the technology work. At times, Steve's creations have been lifesaving, like when he designed a marine radio emergency vessel location system. His work has also been life-liberating, in the sense that it allows people to eliminate mundane data entry by automating the processing of forms with computer-based recognition. Steve's creative side has focused on how to make things simple, elegant, and intuitive. He always strives to simplify the complex into an easy-to-use, technology-based solution and has been able to deliver these solutions quickly by using previous innovations to build new ones.
