I am both a stand-up comedian and a wedding officiant.  A blend of oil & water, you ask?  On the contrary, there is plenty of crossover.

First, let's discuss comedy...

I will rely on your input to customize a performance appropriate for your event.  I can provide a performance anywhere between church-clean and cringe-worthy.  Do you have topics you want to include? Do you have out-of-scope topics to exclude?  What is the nature of the gathering, e.g., 80th birthday party, work promotion, etc.?  What is the age range of the guests?

I partition my material into three categories, aligned with the MPAA film-rating system:  G, PG-13, and NC-17.  I write material with adult audiences in mind; however, young ears are occasionally in attendance.  Although I can opt for clinical or highbrow terminology, I realize some topics are verboten.  I don't want to put parents in a position of having to explain coitus interruptus, sociopathy, or diphallia to their first grader.  Chances are, those parents will not enjoy my performance, they will alert you, my client, who will in turn be disappointed in me.  I prefer to avoid such a situation.  That said, I like having a varied set of material to appeal to broader audience.  I also consider some of my G-rated material to be "church clean" just in case someone wants to liven-up a funeral, pun intended.

Now, let's discuss the art of officiating weddings...

Both the comedian and the officiant stand before a crowd of people who have made an effort to attend and they want to enjoy what they are about to witness.  As I take to the stage, alter, or archway, I want standing room only and undivided attention as I lead guests, bride, and groom through an emotional journey.  As I host the ceremony, my words should not only be welcoming, but also must be relatable.  Speaking with bride and groom during the ceremony is akin to crowd work; all eyes are upon them, they are nervous, and they want to sound and look their best.  Timing, emphasis, and enthusiasm 

My objective is to lead, and be host to, a ceremony which family, friends, and the newlyweds will remember as a beautiful occasion.

Stephen did a fantastic job officiating my wedding. Not only did he drive 4+ hours to meet us at our location, he also worked with us on tight budget. Stephen was very easy to communicate with via email. Considering the fact that my husband and I didn't meet Stephen in person until the morning of the ceremony, he did a great job making us feel comfortable. Our wedding was very intimate and memorable, we couldn't have asked for anything more!
