More about Shabria:
A native of Texas, Shabria Chantell Ray began her study of the viola at the age of five through the Young Strings program, founded by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. By the age of nine, she was performing in her first orchestra, under the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) organization.
During Shabria's sophomore year of high school, she began musical studies under David Schultz of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Shabria attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she performed with the Arts Magnet's Varsity String Orchestra and the Arts Magnet's Symphony Orchestra. In high school Shabria won many awards at the city, regional, and state levels. She also competed in, and won many competitions such as the 2009 Dallas Music Educators Association Concerto Competition (DMEA). With the DMEA concerto competition win, Shabria was given her first opportunity to perform as a soloist.
After high school, Shabria studied with Dr. Kathryn Steely at Baylor University. At Baylor Shabria sat principal chair in the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, played in the Waco Symphony Orchestra, and substituted for the Brazos Valley Symphony and the San Angelo Symphony. Shabria has attended many music festivals including the Brevard Music Center, Hot Springs Music Festival, and the Karen Tuttle Coordination Workshop, Miami Summer Music Festival, and Summit Music Festival. Shabria has had lessons and master classes with the best viola pedagogues in the country such as Michael Klotz, Daniel Foster, Carol Rodland, Susan Dubois, Steven Tenenbom, Roberto Diaz, and Jeffery Irvine.
Shabria recently graduated from the University of Maryland with her Master of Music in Viola Performance under Katherine Murdock.
Shabria teaches violin and viola throughout th eDFW and loves to play jazz during her free time!
