I'm a classically trained guitarist, with a repertoire that spans five centuries and multiple styles. In 2013, I started studying classical/spanish guitar with Norm Ruiz at Columbia College Chicago, and I won a performance scholarship award. In December 2015, I graduated from Columbia with a Bachelor of Music degree.
My classical guitar studies started in 2005, when I spent a year in Los Angeles studying at Musician's Institute in Hollywood. While in L.A, I studied with Grammy Award winning classical guitarist/composer, Evan Hirschelman. Evan helped me to become a more technically sound, well-rounded, and expressive musician. An injury to the median nerve in my right hand cut my studies short, forcing me to move back to Chicago, where my hand was surgically repaired.
Once my hand healed, I continued my studies at Prairie State College and joined the PSC jazz band. I won a most outstanding player award at the Lake County Community College Jazz Contest. I graduated from Prairie State with a Liberal Arts degree and decided to dedicate myself primarily to classical guitar.
Upon earning my Associates Degree from PSC, I developed a repertoire of over 30 solo guitar tunes, half of them classical compositions, the other half includes jazz tunes, popular songs, and a few of my own compositions.
I've been invited to share my music at multiple weddings, parties, fundraisers, and restaurants (Stray Bar, Cilantro, Svagatti's, Grape&Grain, the Keith House, and Glessner House Museum) all over Chicago and its suburbs.
Currently, I'm teaching guitar at Down Home Guitars in Frankfort Illinois, the Beverly Arts Center, and many other places in the Chicagoland area.
