Lee Gordon Jones is a guitarist and a singer-songwriter. He began playing the guitar in 1966. The first songs he learned were the contemporary/folk tunes on the air at the time. They were songs performed by Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Kingston Trio, and others. He then learned some Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Creedence Clearwater Revival tunes. Over the last 45 years, he has steadily added enough tunes to have many hours' worth of material. Lee began writing songs as an early teen and continues writing them as the inspiration comes. He also began performing as an early teen, first in church groups and soon thereafter providing mood music for parties and assorted social gatherings. He started playing in his first rock'n'roll band in high school and sat in with other bands during the same period. During college, he played mostly solo and in some duos, performing primarily acoustic blues and folk-rock; although, he did occasionally sit in on lead guitar with other groups. Since college. he's continued to perform solo, in duos, and in bands of various configurations. He plays primarily in the DC metro area in the Jones 'n' Markin acoustic-electric duo and The MSJ Project power-trio, but his solo gigs have taken him to Aspen, San Diego, San Antonio, Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, Fort Myers, and Austin. Lee has written many of the songs performed by Jones 'n' Markin.
Kelly taught himself to play acoustic guitar at age 16, when he rescued an abandoned guitar from his neighbor's trash. Later, he learned to play bass with some friends at work, who together formed a band, Res Ipsa. Influences include the Beatles, Steely Dan, the Eagles, Dire Straits, Funk Brothers, and Cream. Over the years, he has played with the Herndon Town Square Singers, for special musical events at work, with the seven-piece Frontal Bluesotomy and The Idylwood Band. Aside from his duties on the bass and vocals for Jones 'n' Markin, he also currently holds down the bass and vocals for the band Top Shelf, a five piece classic rock band, and the MSJ Project, a classic rock power-trio.
