The Katalyst Band is an exciting addition to the Christian Rock scene. They began four years ago as a house band for a college ministry in Texas and very quickly grew into a serious full-time band. The members are young, very accomplished musicians with a sincere desire to use their talents to further the Kingdom of God. Each member is a graduate or former student of the prestigious Creative Arts Department of South Plains College. They have been called a "hybrid" band in the press for their unique ability to not only be a full-out rock concert band, but also an intimate worship band depending on what is asked of them.
The band released their first national single in August of 2009. It debuted on the Powersource Music Charts at 64, two weeks later had climbed to 23, and eventually topped out at #3. Their second single reached #4 within a month. This song was also named a top 5 finalist for the Independent Music Awards Contemporary Christian Song of the Year for 2009. Their third national single was released in October 2010 and is currently (April 2011) #4.
Katalyst has been featured in a major billboard campaign in downtown Nashville, TN and appeared the first week of November 2009, on national and international television as they participated in the 15th Annual ICM Awards show. Other featured performers on the show are Jason Crabb, Point of Grace, Halfway to Hazard, Cherryholmes and Ricky Skaggs. The band was the only rock band asked to participate in the show, and was very well received when the show was taped in October 2009. They also were featured performers in the ICM Media and #1 Appreciation show at the famed Wildhorse Saloon and have performed there and at TBN studios several times since.
In late 2010, Katalyst was nominated for ICM Band of the Year and was awarded runner-up. Other top five bands nominated were Point of Grace, Cross Country, The Springs and Last Light. Show performers included Ricky Skaggs, Love and Theft, Andy Griggs and LeeAnn Touhy. Katalyst has also worked with the incredible Tom Jackson, well-known live concert producer whose clients include Taylor Swift, Casting Crowns, and NewSong.
They are currently in the recording studio working on their newest release. Jordan and Will spent much of January 2011 in Los Angeles writing the project with David Hodges (grammy award winning member of Evanescence) Steve McMorran (Trading Yesterday, Satellite), Josh Donahoo, Daniel James, Steve Miller, Leonard Jackson, Brandon Schott and Bryce Soderburg (Lifehouse). It promises to be the best yet from a very exciting band.
Katalyst is a young band, with very professional attitudes and work ethic. They would love to serve as an opening act for larger bands, or to book concerts on their own. Multi-day events are also one of Katalyst's strong suits. They are fully equipped with Yamaha LS9-32 digital FOH and monitor world and JBL/QSC subs and tops, and travel with their own sound engineer. Several music equipment companies such as Matchless Amps, Bogner Amps, Deusenberg Guitars, Dingwall Bass Guitars and Joyful Noise Drum Co. also include Katalyst in their family of musicians. It would be impossible for them to create their music without the support of these fantastic companies.
All in all, Katalyst is a group of fun loving musicians who also happen to be very serious about the music that they write and perform. Easy going and easy to work with, they love the Lord, and would love to be a part of your tour, or Christian event.
