Nate & Aidan are a piano/bass jazz duo from Brooklyn, NY. The two musicians met while studying up in Boston -- Nate at Berklee College of Music and Aidan at New England Conservatory -- and have been friends and collaborators ever since. They play a wide range of music: Jazz standards from the American songbook, instrumental renditions of Norah Jones' classics, Beatles hits, and much, much more! They are happy to match the mood for any setting, and specialize in ceremonies, cocktail hours, small gatherings and virtual events. "Nate has so much going on for him: intimacy with an array of classical, folk, jazz and pop music, the ability to propel any groove with chops and subtlety, a sweet bow sound that can vocalize any melody, fiercely great intonation, and, most importantly, a musical intelligence and intuition that operates with a constant smile." - Eugene Friesen, GRAMMY award-winning cellist and composer (Paul Winter Consort, Trio Globo) "The gentle and generous spirit of Aidan's piano playing leaves you underestimating his remarkable attention to detail and the complexity of his melodic and harmonic ideas. I have been lucky to have played with some amazing players and composers in my 70 years and I can say that Aidan Scrimgeour is a very, very special musician." - Roy Nathanson, Legendary saxophonist on the New York scene (Jazz Passengers) Nate Sabat is a JUNO-nominated bassist, vocalist, songwriter and arranger currently based in Brooklyn, NY. He is a founding member of the award-winning bluegrass band Mile Twelve. A native-New Yorker, he attended LaGuardia High School as a vocal principal and went on to study upright bass at the Berklee College of Music. He has performed on stages throughout Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States, at festivals including Celtic Connections, Greyfox Bluegrass Festival, ROMP and Fork Corners Folk Festival. With his ability to pay close attention to detail and quickly internalize musical form and feeling, Nate is an in-demand sideman both on stage and in the studio. He has worked with artists such as the T Sisters, Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, Honeysuckle, Jeff Scroggins & Colorado and Zoe & Cloyd. Nate has written and arranged music for NPR's Radio Lab, the Young People's Chorus of New York City and the Heifetz International Music Institute. Additionally, a number of his songs are in rotation on Sirius XM's Bluegrass Junction channel. The debut project under his own name, Walking Away, was released in the fall of 2018. Roots music journal No Depression says, "...it becomes clear that within only six tunes, Sabat has effectively constructed a short but dense epic through the mind of a man looking to forgive his past and travel fearlessly into his future". At the core a rock project, it draws from influences as wide as the Stanley Brothers, Dvorák, Joni Mitchell and XTC. Aidan Scrimgeour is a musician, composer, and educator from Salem, MA now based in Brooklyn, NY. After spending a couple years in the Contemporary Improvisation Program at New England Conservatory studying piano performance with Hankus Netsky and Ran Blake, he graduated with a B.A. in American Studies from Tufts University with a focus in Performance and Representation. He has performed at venues throughout the East Coast, including the Freeport Folk Festival, Salem Jazz & Soul Festival, the High Point Furniture Market, ISIS Music Hall, the Salem Arts Festival, Amherst College, Merrimack College, Jalopy Theater and Club Passim. In 2014, Aidan collaborated with his father J.D. to write “Only Human,” an original musical that premiered in Ames Hall in Salem. Inspired by the Irish music scene in Boston, he co-founded and composed music for Celtic/Americana group Pumpkin Bread in 2016. The band has been featured on Brian O'Donovan's Backroom Series and "A Celtic Sojourn" on WGBH. Aidan has been the piano faculty member at the Northeast Jazz Program led by Tom Palance for the past several years. He has been a regularly featured teaching artist at the Salem Jazz & Soul Festival. He is currently a teacher for the Jazz Passengers' 5pm Porch Concert Program with Roy Nathanson.
