Update: The Carl Towns Band has merged with Barefoot Nellie & Co. out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. If you book the Carl Towns Band, you are in essence getting two bands for the price of one. --------------------------------- Carl is a songwriter, who has had some success with his song, "Midnight Train" and "Cherokee Wind" among others. You can hear some of his original songs and covers in his band. The Carl Towns band is looking for bookings for the 2017-2018 seasons across the Nation and Canada. ---------------------------------- Carl was born in Alabama to "musical parents". He began singing at the age of 3 in churches with his family. He is a fifth generation musician, whose heritage spans back to his great great grandfather and uncles who played music in the early days of country music. He was reared in Bluegrass music by his mother and dad who came onto the Bluegrass scene in the 60s as the Osborne Brothers were making themselves a name. His father, Joe Towns, was a sharecropper's son, who farmed the Alabama landscape for many years while playing music with his father, brothers and sisters in a group called The Southern Travelers. Carl was born into this tradition, and first got serious about playing an instrument in 1980 as he learned the Upright Bass, then Guitar and then Mandolin. Carl began playing with his family, "The Bluegrass Harmoneers" at the age of 14 as Bass player and sometime singer. As he grew in skill and confidence, he switched to Mandolin and more lead singing. This ultimately led to Carl signing with Greenback Records in 1998 and touring as Carl T. Towns singing country and bluegrass music around Europe and the United States. After his stint with Greenback, Carl formed Cherokee Wind and began touring again performing strictly Bluegrass music. After members of Cherokee Wind became sick(including his mother), Carl chose to travel with Blue River in the early 2000s and tour with them instead of pursuing Cherokee Wind further. he played for several years with Blue River which was the house band for Hoofers Gospel Barn in LaGrange, Georgia. Carl performs as a member of the Dade County Boys as well. The Dade County Boys are based in Trenton, Ga. just 15 minutes from Chattanooga Tennessee. Originally formed in the early 60s, the Dade County Boys have performed in venues across the nation. After one of its original members passed away, the band fizzled in the early 90s after 30 years of performing. In 2011, after a very enjoyable jam between some of the original members and other locals who were performers in their own rite, Johnny Wallen, the band's founder and bass player suggested that the Dade County Boys be resurrected. In agreement, those jammers resurrected the Dade County Boys in its new configuration. Soon after, the band was playing regular local shows and began The High Lonesome Hayride, a television show on local access cable which reaches into thousands of homes each week. Carl continues to host the High Lonesome Hayride and performs regularly as well on that show. Carl Joined various groups and finally settled on working his own band by calling on his many musician friends to make the Carl Towns Band happen. He also performs solo work around the Chattanooga area in a singer-songwriter setting or brings some great musicians along with him to perform all manner of venues. Just ask! Carl can put something great together for your event! (Please contact for performance fee details. Our fee is based on distance and time involved. Thank you!)

These guys were great! I was thrilled to have some live music at our rehearsal dinner and this was just the most perfect way to introduce our guests to a great southern sound at a reasonable price. They were very accommodating and did a wonderful job! I would definitely hire them again!!
