Hot Trail Mix is an innovative new Bluegrass band out of the Asheville/Boone NC area. The band has a rowdy youthful vigor that excites audiences of all ages, shapes and sizes! The band's genre repertoire encompasses everything from: Traditional Bluegrass, Newgrass, Oldtime Stringband Music, Gospel, Folk/Americana, Country, Swing, instrumental, Jazz, Soulful Acoustic, and then a collection of the band's original compositions that mix-match a variety of these.
*(Hot Trail Mix usually does an even mix of Originals, Covers/Tradtitionals, and Instrumental tunes)*
The band features an all-star cast of fiddlers-convention ribbon winners, including: Mason Via (guitar), Zeb Gambill (mandolin), Grayson "Pinky" Tuttle (banjo), Nate Leath (Love Canon/Old School Freight Train) on fiddle, and Zachary Smith (of Town Mountain) on bass. Each musician brings there own flare to the project, they have all been playing there respective instruments for several years, and everyone in the band can sing the high lonesome harmony that makes bluegrass so powerful. Hot Trail Mix is primarily led by Mason Via, a young singer/songwriter and son of award winning songwriter David Via (Corn Tornado). Mason released his first debut album, "Up, Up, Up", in May of 2015, and will be releasing his second album ("Looking for the Stone") in the Winter of 2018 on the Patuxent label. Mason studies traditional music at Warren Wilson College and has danced with the world famous Green Grass Cloggers...Mason can show off his clogging steps upon request!
