The 42nd St. Big Band has been a working Big Band since 1986 specializing in tribute shows, festivals, wedding receptions, parties and dance events. This is a versatile band, accustomed to providing a variety of music designed to keep all ages involved and enjoying the event.
Our Music Book includes original arrangements of legendary giants Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Benny Goodman, and Warren Covington as well as great old time rock and roll tunes from the '50's - 70's. In addition, "Retro Swing", (an exciting rebirth of swing dancing,) and exciting Latin numbers have been added in response to requests from clients.
The versatile, multi-talented musicians of the 42nd St. Band are some of the most sought after musicians in Florida. Many are former members of the Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Les Brown bands. Several play for touring stars such as Johnny Mathis, Bernadette Peters, The Temptations and the Four Tops as well as national Broadway show tours. This level of expertise make the 42nd St. Big Band one of the most versatile bands available, capable of every style of music from traditional Big Band and Swing to Dixieland and Latin.
Our male and female vocalists also cover a wide variety of styles including music of the Andrews Sisters; legendary jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Lena Horne; tributes to Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, the Righteous Brothers, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Patsy Cline.
Bob Boyd, Leader and Conductor of the 42nd St. Big Band, has appeared as pianist with the Big Bands of Warren Covington, Ray Anthony, Sy Zentner, Tex Beneke, and Les Elgart. Bob has played and/or conducted for several famous stars including the Smothers Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Bernadette Peters, Diahnne Carol, Connie Haines, Robert Goulet, Bob Hope, Rich Little, Martin Short, Bob Newhart and Joan Rivers.
The 42nd St. Big Band has been the band of choice for many touring acts, including several stars of the Lawrence Welk Show: Jimmy Roberts, Henry Questa, Jack Immel, Ralna English, Tom Netherton, Jo Ann Castle, Myron Floren and Ana Cani, and Italian favorites Don Cornell, Jerry Vale, Dick Contino, Connie Francis.
We also produce specialty and tribute shows on request as well as holiday shows throughout the year: Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, Christmas and New Year's Eve. We have several patriotic programs for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, 9/11 and Veterans Day.
The versatile 42nd St. Band also works in smaller combinations including the "Clambake 7", an exciting Dixieland band, the "Tequila Six" featuring the music of the Tijuana Brass, and "Sentimental Journey" a quintet specializing in easy listening for intimate events and dancing for smaller venues.
We look forward to meeting you and working with you to design the perfect music to compliment your special event.
