Bleeding Heart Bellydance is an American Tribal Style* bellydance troupe. American Tribal Style bellydance is a folkloric style of bellydance that uses group improvisation rather than choreography, with the dancers using strong nonverbal communication to create a unified presentation. This style, with its richly layered ethnic costuming and jewelry, represents a fusion of traditional dance styles from North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, India, and Spain re-imagined in a uniquely American way.
The troupe is directed by Leslie, a student of bellydance since seeing the troupe, Invaders of the Heart, perform in 1992. She became a troupe member of Invaders in 1994. In 1999, Leslie joined Troupe Anahata. Leslie began teaching American Tribal Style Bellydance in Napa in 2006. Bleeding Heart Bellyance is composed of a group of dedicated Napa dancers and has been performing at various North Bay venues since 2006. Bleeding Heart Bellydance has performed at wineries, festivals, recitals, weddings, and art openings and has organized and hosted several Middle Eastern dance shows at studios and art galleries in Napa.
