Make your next party the event of a lifetime with belly dance! Najla is an Egyptian-style belly dance performer and instructor who brings the spirit of the Middle East to New York City and beyond through the beautiful art of belly dance. She has been featured in The New York Times, The Village Voice, NY1 TV and the lifestyle blog Woman Around Town. She specializes in saidi/cane, veil, finger cymbals and Isis wings. Najla can be seen performing at various venues in New York City (including Webster Hall and numerous restaurants and festivals) and at private events in the area.
Najla has been practicing the art of Middle Eastern dance since 2001, and also has over ten years of training and experience in modern, jazz and Broadway-style dance. She was the president of and an instructor/choreographer for the Yale Belly Dance Society for four years and taught at Yale University's Payne Whitney Gym as well as private classes. Dedicated to learning the technique and history of Middle Eastern dance in all its forms, Najla continues to train with a wide variety of talented instructors.
Bring the flair and excitement of belly dance to your special event, or add an exotic touch to your restaurant or coffee house. Belly dance is a fun and family-friendly form of entertainment that will get your partygoers smiling, tapping their feet, and up on the dance floor! Choose from a traditional dance show or create a custom show just for you and your guests.
Traditional Egyptian-style dance shows include a high-powered entrance number, prop work (veil, cane, Isis wings, etc), a slow, sultry taqsim and a finale featuring up-beat pop music and audience participation. A restaurant set usually follows this order.
Looking to learn some new moves and have fun with your party guests? Then book a mini-lesson! Najla will give a performance and then teach you and your guests an introduction to the art of belly dance. Hip scarves will be provided to add a little glamor, and are also available for purchase. For children's parties, games such as "Frozen Genies" and "Musical Magic Carpet" will be added into the fun.
Thanks so much for playing at this weekend's craft fair. The bellydancing was a great addition to the event and I think everyone loved the performance

Najla did an amazing job at the surprise birthday party! Her energy and skill really put on a great show. Also, she put the audience in such a good mood, it helped me finish off my set with a bang!

For a while, I stopped wanting to dance because I had a bad time with a different teacher. I decided to give her class a chance to see if I really had no more passion for dancing. After the class, I was so glad that I went and realized that I still wanted to dance. She made me love dancing again. She's knowledgeable with technique and origin and she watches to make sure you're doing it right. She gives you attention if you need it. She'll stop the class to make sure you get it. She wants you to ask questions and understand what's going on. Bottom line, I think Najla is great and I plan to continue to take her class.
