My name is Pete Lane. I perform a small 30 minute magic show for kid's parties. The ideal age group is from 4 to 6 years of age. The show includes a small amount of puppetry, 3 ball cascade juggling, plate spinning and a make-believe flea circus. In addition to the show I twist balloons into different shapes. The (one a minute) shapes include dog, braid, hat, parrot, octopus, pig, elephant and apples (or pumpkins). The 2 more elaborate (and time consuming) shapes that I can do are Daffy Duck and a bicycle. I come dressed and made up as Vanilla Swirl the clown. The alternative to me arriving as a clown is for me to come as myself dressed in regular clothes.
The places that I get asked to twist balloons at mostly are for Child Day Care Centers, Children's Libraries, Birthday Parties, Elementary Schools, Grand openings and Church Events.
The average time frame that I am at a party is 1 hour. That breaks down to a 1/2 hour show followed by a 1/2 hour of balloon twisting.
The show goes over best when I am on the floor level close to the kids. Examples of where I have performed before at are children's libraries, farmers market, living rooms and yards, day care centers, camps, church's, and rented halls across Connecticut and into NY, MA, and RI.
I have been a clown since i was 12 years old, decades ago. When I am not clowning i work with people with disabilities. i am naturally drawn to the shy at heart and try to create an environment that feels safe for all. My make up and approach reflect this effort.
2 times in my life merged for me to begin my clown career. My family had 2 friends that were performers, one a singer and another, a magician. They both took me with them to a very large venue where they were performing and I loved being there with them. Second a friend and I decided to raise money for a cause that was near to our hearts and we began clowning. By far the most exciting job that I ever had was twisting balloons at the Special Olympic world Games in New Haven Connecticut. Stars from television and the movies were there, along with the president and his wife. i got to twist balloons along side the Harlem Globe Trotters. It was a week that I will never forget. The most rewarding times that i 've been a clown is walking through poorer neighborhoods and the kids surround you. I've recieved some training through several workshops that I've been to. These were put on by Clown, Mime, Puppetry and Dance Ministry Workshops, New England Clown convention and Clowns Without Borders.
